Education

There are eight high schools across the target areas. Five of these schools have attainment levels below the national average.  Primary schools in the areas of high deprivation have to deal with the challenges that young children face when brought up in households with often low incomes, low skills and in some cases, third generation unemployment.

Leeds Ahead offers access to a comprehensive menu of opportunities to support the development of aspiration and skills and to raise levels of attainment of pupils through:

  1. mentoring
  2. numeracy and literacy support
  3. employability skills, such as communication skills, interview practice etc
  4. workplace visits
  5. extended work placements within business
  6. good attendance sponsorship

and to strengthen schools and their ability to deliver by providing:

  1. school governors
  2. teacher placements in business
  3. mentoring for head teachers and deputies
  4. curriculum support (eg on the new diplomas)
