Vision for Leeds

Leeds Ahead was created in 2004 to help Leeds Initiative to deliver the Vision for Leeds 2004-2020.

The Leeds Initiative is the city's strategic partnership group.  Founded in 1990, it brings together the public, private, community and voluntary sectors to work together to achieve greater success, encourage further improvement, and tackle and overcome problems for the benefit of all current and future residents.

In 2004 the Leeds Initiative published the Vision for Leeds 2004-2020, a long term plan for the ongoing economic, cultural and environmental development of the city.  The Vision is arrived at after extensive consultation with local residents, businesses, voluntary sector organisations and public sector bodies.

The Vision is developed and put into practice by a number of strategy and partnership groups working as part of the Leeds Initiative.  All of these groups have wide-ranging networks that bring together over 500 organisations under the Leeds Initiative family.

Three central aims of the Vision for Leeds

  1. Narrow the Gap - between the most disadvantaged people and communities and the rest of the city;
  2. Go up a League - making Leeds an internationally competitive city, the best place in the country to live, work and learn, with a high quality of life for everyone; and
  3. Develop Leeds' role as the regional capital, contributing to the national economy as a competitive European city, supporting and supported by a region that is becoming increasingly prosperous
