Between 9th and 13th June 2008, Leeds Ahead sourced 105 volunteers from 4site Security, Arena Group, Baker Tilly, Barclays Commercial Banking, Buro Happold, BNY Mellon, Carey Jones Architects, Lexis Nexis Visualfiles and Premier Farnells to participate in the "Aire Action Leeds" initiative. The volunteers undertook a number of activities including clearing work, hedge trimming, fence construction and painting to prepare the grounds of Armley Mills for the annual "I Love West Leeds Arts Festival". Volunteers were full of praise for the project, with all considering it a professionally organised, excellent and rewarding week. The Festival was also a resounding success, with over 3,500 people attending the opening day celebrations - the most visitors the mill has ever had in one day! In total 840 hours were donated by the businesses to this worthwhile project and Leeds Ahead hope that this will become an activity that will continue for many years to come.
