St Nicholas RC Primary School nature and wildlife area recently underwent a transformation delivering not only an extension to the area but creating a new habitat for wildlife out of re-cycled materials, delivered through the active support of Leeds City Council and Groundwork co-ordinated by Leeds Ahead.
All team members utilised their combined skills to deliver the result safely whilst sharing the various tasks. Business volunteers also benefitted by developing improved organization and problem solving skills, improved relationships between colleagues, development of communication skills and improved team skills through working with different groups of people.
The school will now benefit from safer, cleaner boundaries to their playing fields and the children will be able to benefit by getting more use out of the improved nature garden.
Clearing of the ditch and overgrown boundary line has improved the appearance of the surrounding area and will allow for easier maintenance. Local residents will benefit from more natural light now overgrown trees have been trimmed and a safer, cleaner area now that litter has been removed.
The added bonus for business volunteers was the appreciation expressed by neighbouring residents for the difference they have made to the area.
