On Tuesday 2nd December 2008, over 60 delegates attended Leeds Ahead's business networking event - "Be the Catalyst" at Hillside, a new community-owned enterprise centre in Beeston.
The event showed businesses how they can encourage enterprise in disadvantaged communities by sharing their skills and experience with those who are just starting out in business.
Jeremy Morton, Director of the Tiger 11 Community Development Trust and Chrissie Slater of Camberwell explained how the new enterprise centre would work. Leeds Ahead members Paul Whitaker and John Hayton explained how they had both donated time and expertise to help new enterprises to grow. Paula Temple and Gemma Povey of Future Arts provided a unique perspective on the benefits that their community enterprise had experienced as a result of help they had received from Leeds Ahead businesses.
A range of enterprise-related projects that businesses can support as part of their corporate responsibility programmes is available through Leeds Ahead.
Smaller businesses really come into their own in this area as no-one understands the issues involved in starting a new business quite like someone who's done it themselves.
