Last Friday Leeds Ahead and CBI hosted a business lunch with Richard Lambert, CBI Director-General, and George Osborne, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer.
George Osborne appeared prior to the event to deliver the first in a series of audiences with business in the regions.
As part of his visit, Richard Lambert spent the morning at Cockburn College in south Leeds. This year the college has achieved its best-ever results in GCSE Maths and English, following coaching provided by staff from Pinsent Masons as part of their Leeds Ahead membership.
Mr Lambert used his visit to highlight the crucial role that businesses can play to help schools raise educational standards and increase the longer-term employment prospects of pupils. He said:
“The partnership between Cockburn College, Pinsent Masons and Leeds Ahead, is a model of what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together.
Mr Lambert added:
“Through Leeds Ahead, Pinsent Masons has built a relationship that has delivered year on year improvements in GCSE results at Cockburn”.
