Keith Trotter of Cartwright Hardware has been sponsoring attendance at Ingram Road Primary school for the past 5 years.
Run through Education Leeds' Attendance Sponsorship team, each year Keith has kindly donated £200 which the school has used to purchase prizes for attendance. In summer 2009 all children with 100% attendance were presented with i-pods and those with improved attendance were presented with watches.
The school has also purchased a trophy, which is used to reward the class with the best attendance week, named the ‘Mr Trotter Class Attendance Trophy' after Keith.
The longevity of this ongoing relationship has enabled the programme to have a visible, lasting effect on attendance in the school and has also built the reputation of Cartwright Hardware within the community.
Head teacher Sarah Millard said,
"It is evident that the programme encourages all the pupils to strive to achieve and be rewarded for an excellent attendance record. The awards would not be possible to fund without Mr Trotter's support."
She also commented that the sponsorship was "an enormous help in raising the awareness of attendance issues with families."
Cartwright Hardware's membership of Leeds Ahead and the work they have done at Ingram Road demonstrates to both their employees and visitors, as well as to pupils and their families, that businesses can make a beneficial contribution to the local community whatever their size.
