On March 12th 2008 Leeds Ahead organised a ‘Jobs and Training Fair' at Leeds prison, Armley. Statistics have highlighted employment as a key component to preventing re-offending behaviour; stable employment reduces the probability of re-offending by two thirds. The fair was an enormous success with 31 stands from businesses, training and support agencies and 112 inmates attending. Within six weeks of the event five offenders completed their sentences and secured employment and are now able to rebuild their lives and those of their families. As a result of an overwhelming response from the prisoners, HMP, employers and partners the second Jobs Fair is being held on 18th September 2008.

The prisoners were very positive and an audio tape of their feedback can be listened to here.
