On Friday 3 April, Seven staff from Leeds City Council's Public Private Partnerships Unit (PPPU) supported a group of six people with disabilities at Technorth Family Learning Centre. The group is made up of individuals who have expressed an interest in securing full time employment with Leeds City Council, some of which already have work placements there. The purpose of the project was to help prepare the group for the world of work, focusing on job roles, aspirations, and confidence building as well as looking at the Council's job application process. Penny Schofield of the PPPU found the session really useful for both her and the group. ‘I really enjoyed meeting the group, and helping them identify their strengths. It helped me understand the challenges some people face and why they don’t have the confidence to apply for jobs.’
This activity is the start of many projects that staff will support as part of the Council's Leeds By Example corporate responsibility programme which enables the Council’s workforce to make a contribution to the city’s Narrowing the Gap agenda through volunteering their time and skills in the community.
